Finish line feels!
Now the dust has settled on some tremendous weeks for us Welly’s, let’s get you caught up with the action. Starting with the @keelyklassic @keely.hodgkinson
Mollie Grant was first up for #LWAC in the National U17W 800m and bided her time before rounding the last bend to make a break for home, leaving behind Jorjia March before perfectly timing her kick to overtake Bella Taylor metres before the line to take the win in 2:08.58 (a SB – and we’re pretty sure, yet ANOTHER PB and CLUB RECORD that @mollie.grant27 has beaten of her own, we can’t keep up!).
Trust us, the video footage and finish line photos are immense, showing the joy and passion of Mollie. The best bit? Watching one superb runner staring into the eyes of a special 800m runner, yes, that’s Keely with her eyes fixed on Mollie post-race.
In the elite women’s 60m, @mabel_akande ran twice in an hour, being beaten by only one athlete: Olympian and fellow @lincsathletics athlete, @a.myhunt.
In the heats, Mabel ran a 7.32s after an immense start and made the Grantham runner work for the win, with both safely through to the final.
In the final, only 0.04s separated the two once more, with Mabel again exploding out of the blocks and into her running, pushing Amy all the way, and finishing with a silver medal in a time of 7.28s. Let’s not forget, Akande is still only 18 years old and making waves on the world stage!
Let’s celebrate this success, with LWAC medalling in both events we were invited to partake in. Stay tuned, there is SO much more to come from the last fortnight, including a new BRITISH RECORD from a Lincoln Wellington athlete, we bet you can’t guess who it is…?
