The 2024 UK top 10 5000m runner (and Top 6 over 10,000m), @soph_w91 made her @englandathletics debut on Sunday, representing her country for the first time after patiently waiting for her chance having been a reserve for @teamgb previously.
In what appeared absolutely horrendous conditions at the XC course at the Stade Lucien Gustin, all four Brits rallied home in the Top 13 places from 44 competitors.
The all-time number 2 parkrunner, Sophie, placed 13th in her first internationally-represented race, safely negotiating hurdles, mudslides and difficult conditions. 4 athletes finished with a DNF on the day, and off the back of a period of injury, this is a big ‘pass of the test’ for Sophie who can now continue her comeback journey to full fitness.
We’re certain this will be the first of many International caps for Sophie, and only the beginning of the great things still to come.
Please join us in congratulating Sophie on this immense and proud achievement 👏
