UKA Futures Programme Entry for Mabel – Two Years on the Trot!

Mabel Akande has once more been selected to be a part of the exclusive, UKA Futures Programme, which takes on young, successful Olympic-potential athletes to become the best they can be.

The Programme – which is supported by Nike and delivered in partnership with the Home Country Athletics Federations – is focused on supporting athletes and coaches who have demonstrated the potential to succeed at future Olympic Games.

Through a series of camps and experiences, and with the support of dedicated staff, the Programme provides opportunities for athletes to develop the skills and abilities required for international senior success and forms part of the pathway towards the World Class Programme (WCP).

Mabel joins some huge names in being retained for a second year, which is testament to her hard work and success alongside coach, Denise Timmis, as well as seeing up-and-coming stars joining the programme for the first time this year.

2024 has seen her build immensely on her already impressive CV, which included PBs, Team GB Jnr call ups, and the U20 World Championships in Lima, Peru, where she missed out on the final as a 17 year old by just 0.01s. She already boasts a 100m PB of 11.27s!

Let’s all wish Mabel well for future and continue to celebrate the success of everyone at the club, at every level. To read more about the @britishathletics / British Athletics pathway, click the link below:
