It’s been a busy weekend of competition for LWAC, with regional XC leagues, Indoor opens, and of course, the @crosscountryantalya2024 @europeanathletics #europeanxcchamps. Club records have again fallen, bucket loads of PBs rewritten, and plenty to update you on this week still to come…yet we can only close the weekend out in one way…
Abbie Donnelly comes back from injury to qualify for the @teamgb squad that has just stormed its way to the top of the medals table this morning in Antalya!
She finishes in 17th place this year, having earned an individual bronze (her first individual international medal) and team Gold last year, adding a team silver to her growing collection of accolades on the global stage!
Clocking 26:41 over the 7.5km course, the Senior Women’s team were fairly tightly packed, with first Briton Kate Axford placing in the top 10 with a time of 26:20, and Izzy Fry 14 seconds ahead of Abbie.
The race was won by the in-form Nadia Battocletti, who heartbreakingly stole silver from Abbie in the closing stages last year.
A special mention goes out to Sophie (Wallis) Bowser, who was on the reserve list for this Championship, after a brilliant run in Liverpool too. Only a matter of time…
Congratulations, Abbie! 🥈🇬🇧
