Saturday 3rd June 2017: Northern League Match 1, Rotherham. Report by Shireen Timmis, Press Secretary.
After finishing a very close third in the first Northern League of the season at Rotherham, the Team Manager (Denise Timmis) wishes to thank both the athletes and officials who took part for their stellar effort. In a team that benefited from the youth of the juniors and the experience of the seniors and masters we rallied around when Assistant Team Manager, Mark Afford, was taken ill and covered his events.

On the sprints side, Georgina Adam filled the A slots in the 100m and 200m, winning both by a considerable distance, and stepping up to cover a slot in the 4x400m relay gaining us valuable points. Dan Hill and Andy Spour also had solid performances in the 100m, with Dan filling both the A slots in the sprints. Newcomer Matt Hyslop covered six events on both the track and the field, gaining a new personal best in the long jump of 6.01m.

In addition to the seniors, some of the juniors made the huge step up from YDL to the senior league and showed their class by holding their own in a tough crowd with Eleanor Leslie, Emily Moore, Iva Magpantay,
Millie Turner, Maddie Wood all gaining experience and points for the club. Over on the field, and throws maestro Wayne Roddis-Clarke put out solid performances in the Hammer, Shot and Discus. In the polevault Hayley Fox vaulted to second place whilst fellow athlete Abbie Small also came second in the B string.

Back on the track for the long distance, Thomas Trimble and Jack Rushby both ran storming PB’s in the 1500m with Archie Richardson completing a thrilling run in the 800m, but unfortunately just missing out on a PB. Fellow athlete Declan Bennett was also alongside with an impressive run to a new PB. Speaking after the match Coach Baddley was absolutely delighted with their performances. The more experienced runners Marc Thorpe and Adam Baker also impressive in the steeplechase and 5,000m. Marc went onto cover events in both the 400mH and the Triple Jump.

Final shout is to Ash Steventon who carrying a serious injury competed in the High Jump winning in impressive style and then gaining more points in the Triple Jump.

Good to be part of the team today and see such spirit by all. Next Match is in Hull, See you all there!

Saturday 3rd June 2017: Well done to Joe Wilkinson, Shane Robinson, James Straw and Ronnie Wilson in their BMC 5000m race in Manchester on Saturday. Joe ran 14.19 for a new PB in the U23 English Champs finishing 8th. James ran 14.50 also finishing with a new PB.
